Until you see us, read through the below recommendations for temporary pain relief.
Toothache is usually caused by infection, although it can occur for several reasons. If your toothache is worsening over time, clean your mouth out with warm water and then floss gently in order to eliminate bits of food debris that might cause infection. Specialist mouthwashes like Corsodyl can be used to help stop excess bacteria. It is true that over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen can relieve tooth and gum pain, but never let the tablet rest against the gums.
Swelling in the mouth or face is often a sign of infection or inflammation and should never be ignored. It can be caused by dental abscesses, gum disease, or trauma to the teeth or jaw. If swelling develops, gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water to help reduce bacteria and soothe the area. Avoid applying heat to the face, as this can worsen inflammation, and seek dental advice promptly if the swelling increases, becomes painful, or is accompanied by fever.
Loose veneers and bridges can occur due to wear and tear, decay beneath the restoration, or damage to the bonding material. If a veneer or bridge feels loose, avoid chewing on that side of the mouth and keep the area clean by gently brushing and flossing. Do not attempt to reattach it yourself using glue, as this can cause further damage. Temporary dental cement from a pharmacy may help in an emergency, but professional treatment is needed to prevent further complications.
A broken or chipped tooth can happen as a result of injury, biting on hard foods, or underlying decay. Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area and remove any debris, and if swelling is present, apply a cold compress to the outside of the face. Avoid chewing on the affected side and steer clear of very hot, cold, or sweet foods that may trigger sensitivity. Prompt dental treatment is important to prevent infection and restore the strength of the tooth.
A knocked-out tooth is a dental emergency and usually occurs due to trauma or impact. If possible, gently rinse the tooth with water without scrubbing it and try to place it back into the socket. If this isn’t possible, store the tooth in milk or saliva to keep it moist. Avoid touching the root of the tooth.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
How long have you been at the practice, when was it started?
Lux Dental opened its doors in the lovely village of Quorn in December 2021, but the business actually began as an idea in 2015 by Dr. Ravi and Dr. Anjli. After graduating, they had always dreamed of owning their own dental surgery and building it from the ground up. After several years of searching, they finally found the perfect location in Quorn to bring their dream into fruition.
What is the history of the practice?
The dental practice where Lux is currently situated was previously owned by David Armstrong and operated under the name Armstrong Dental. In December 2021, Dr Ravi and Dr Anjli took over the surgery and rebranded it as Lux Dental.
Since taking over the dental surgery, we have significantly evolved the practice and have plans to continue evolving. We have transformed the surgery from a basic dentistry practice to a multidisciplinary one that now offers complex treatments such as root canals, dental implants, Oral surgery, cosmetic dentistry and adult orthodontics
The Practice now
Since taking over the dental surgery in 2021, we have dedicated a lot of time and resources into creating a practice that is both service and technology orientated. We have fully embraced digital technology and now have an intra oral scanner, which can scan teeth for crowns, implants and Invisalign. Additionally, we recently invested in a CT scanner at our sister practice, which helps us provide the best care to our patients by aiding in the diagnosis of any issues. We have also recently invested in a very “snazzy” laser which helps to repair teeth that may have been deemed unrestorable in the past.
Which partners do you have?
At Lux Dental, we only partner with cutting- edge companies that are leaders in dental technology. We offer Invisalign for our patients looking for straight teeth and work with Straumann for dental implants. Additionally, we have an in-house dental plan run in partnership with Practice Plan that gives patients access to quality dental care, whether it be routine or emergency.
