OVERVIEW

WHITE FILLINGS

For a variety of reasons, teeth can develop decay and holes (or cavities) and require treatment from a dentist, who will be able to remove the decay, clean the cavity and refill the tooth with a filling material.

If these holes are left untreated, there is a chance the decay can rapidly spread through the tooth and cause pain, infection and ultimately the tooth may need to be removed.

We recommend regular visits to the dentist so any potential issues can be identified and treated early on, before they are likely to cause you a problem.

QUESTIONS ABOUT

THIS TREATMENT

There are different filling materials that can be used depending on the individual tooths condition, and the preference of the patients. These include:

  • Amalgam (silver) fillings
  • Composite (white/tooth coloured) fillings
  • Inlays/onlays (ceramic, metal or gold) which are made in a laboratory and bonded onto the tooth

Many patients prefer white composite fillings as they are more aesthetically pleasing than amalgam fillings and match closer to the shade of your teeth. However, both types are resilient choices for filling cavities.
