Most people can undergo orthodontic treatment at our clinic in Loughborough. In some cases, braces are the best option, however, sometimes it might be better to consider something like Invisalign. We determine the outcome of each case depending on what you want, and what would work best for you.

The first couple of weeks may be a little uncomfortable as you get used to having something in your mouth that wasn’t there before. The brace can feel sharp and your teeth can feel a bit achey as they move, but this soon settles. After adjustment appointments, the achy feeling may return, but this will subside after a couple of days.

Metal braces don’t stain, but white braces can. The elastic bands that go around each bracket on your tooth are clear…but you can be sure a curry will stain them! Therefore, it’s best to take care when eating these kinds of foods.

When you move teeth, they do have a tendency to move back to their original position. This is why retainers are SO important. There are different types of retainers available, however, we usually recommend the plastic kind, known as Essix retainers. It takes six to seven months for the bone to form in the new position, so we ask you to wear your retainers full-time for this initial period. For the next six months, you would wear them for 12 hours a day (evenings and overnight) and after the first year you only need to wear them at night. This is pretty much forever…or as long as you want your teeth to remain straight! We usually recommend having a new set of retainers made every 12 months.
