OVERVIEW

SINUS LIFT LOUGHBOROUGH

A sinus elevation, alternatively known as sinus augmentation, is a procedure involving the addition of bone between your jaw and the maxillary sinus in your upper jaw. This process is essential where there is insufficient bone height in the jaw, or if the sinuses’ floor is too near to the planned placement area for the implants.

Dr Ravi carefully plans this procedure using information gathered during the initial consultation and from the x-rays and CT scans conducted. These imaging techniques allow for precise measurement of the height and width of your existing bone and a comprehensive evaluation of your sinus health.

QUESTIONS ABOUT

THIS TREATMENT

This procedure becomes necessary when there’s insufficient bone height in the jaw or the sinus floor is too close to the proposed implant site. Several factors contribute to these conditions, including:

  • A prolonged period since teeth loss – Upon tooth loss, bone resorption (re-absorption back into the body) commences. This process continues over time; the longer the gap persists, the greater the reduction in bone.
  • Past periodontal disease – Periodontal disease triggers bone loss around the teeth, potentially leading to tooth loss and a significant decrease in bone levels.
  • Unique anatomical attributes such as enlarged sinuses or diminished bone presence.
  • Chronic infection – A long-standing tooth infection untreated with root canal treatment or extraction can progressively erode bone, leading to bone level and density reduction.

This procedure carries certain risks, which Dr Ravi will fully explain. We endeavour to work in harmony with our patients to minimise these risks and ensure your comfort during treatment.

Dental implants boast a high success rate provided they receive adequate care. You’ll be shown how to clean around your implant, and we strongly recommend regular appointments with our hygienist to optimise cleaning efficiency.

It’s suggested that you brush your teeth twice daily, preferably using an electric toothbrush, and consistently clean between your teeth and around your dental implant with floss or interdental brushes.

We advise routine visits to our clinic, usually twice a year, where your dentist will assess the implant’s health.
