Lip enhancement, often referred to as lip augmentation or lip fillers, has gained significant attention recently. This process involves injecting a dermal filler, infused with hyaluronic acid, into the lip meticulously. This technique is designed to restore lost volume or augment the lips’ shape and plumpness.
A multitude of practitioners offer this treatment, but choosing a competent professional is vital to secure satisfactory results and a safe treatment experience.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
TREATMENT JOURNEY
Our first step would be to gather a comprehensive background, including medical history, to determine your suitability for this procedure. This will be accompanied by a detailed consent process.
Anaesthetic – To ensure your utmost comfort during the entire procedure, we use dental anaesthetic blocks, similar to the ones utilised for routine dental fillings, to effectively numb the lips.
Lip enhancement – Our goal is to tastefully and naturally augment your lips using a cannula, the safest instrument for filler injections. We meticulously apply the filler in narrow bands that seamlessly integrate within the lip structure, avoiding any unpleasant artificial look.
Massage – We make it our duty to ascertain that your lips remain silky and supple, completely free from any irregularities post-treatment.
QUESTIONS ABOUT
THIS TREATMENT
The main component of filler is hyaluronic acid, a naturally present substance in our skin. Over time, our body breaks this substance down, leading to a natural breakdown of the filler as well. When injected, it hydrates, volumises, and helps restore lost volume and structure, a common occurrence with ageing. Some fillers also incorporate local anaesthetics.
Not under our care! Relying solely on numbing cream, a common practice, can result in a painful experience given the sensitivity of lips. We use dental blocks instead. Despite initial discomfort akin to a filling procedure, you will be fully numb thereafter, ensuring a comfortable experience.
Like any procedure, lip filler comes with risks, particularly if not conducted safely. The most significant risk involves injecting the filler into a vessel. Being gel-like, it could potentially block the vessel or move within the blood vessels causing blockages. In such instances, the filler must be immediately dissolved, and we always have the dissolving agent readily available. To minimise this risk, we opt for a cannula to inject the filler, a safer alternative to a needle, significantly reducing the likelihood of serious complications.
Bruising and swelling are the primary side effects, varying from person to person, but usually subsiding within a few days.
Typically, the results persist for 6-9 months, although the duration can vary among individuals.
The lip filler product we use depends on the intended outcome. We have a range of major brands like Juvederm, Restylane, Aliaxin on hand, with Aliaxin LV being our preference!
Multiple sessions might be needed to achieve the desired lip size. We limit each sitting to one syringe, or 1ml, allowing you the option to return for more.
