A dental implant is a miniature titanium screw that is surgically embedded into the jaw bone, effectively serving as the root of a new tooth. It is concealed within the gum and remains invisible. The comprehensive procedure, from the initial consultation to the final result, may span between 8 weeks to 6 months, contingent on the treatment plan, the number of implants and the number of missing teeth to be replaced.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
Stage 1 - Consultation
Stage 2 - TreatmentStage 1 - ConsultationAt your initial consultation, Dr Ravi will discuss with you your goals and expectations of the treatment, as well as any concerns or questions you may have. He will conduct a thorough examination, inclusive of x-rays, and will elucidate the available options. Patients often necessitate a CT scan (Computed Tomography) for a deeper understanding of bone levels and surrounding structures. Should this be required, a referral will be arranged. Dental impressions might be taken at this point.
You will subsequently be invited for a second consultation. Post a comprehensive analysis of all diagnostic data, a treatment plan will be formulated. Along with the entire cost, including potential payment plan options, all aspects will be clarified. Once you have expressed satisfaction with the proposal, the treatment will commence.
Stage 2 - TreatmentImplant placement: this minor surgical procedure, performed under entirely sterile conditions, involves the placement of the implant(s). While the procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia to negate any pain, patients may experience some pressure. However, sedation options are also accessible to ensure patient comfort.
Review: approximately two weeks after the implant(s) placement, a follow-up appointment with Dr Ravi will be arranged. During this visit, he’ll examine the treated area, remove any necessary stitches, and confirm the healing process is progressing as expected.
After the implant(s) placement, an integration period of 8-10 weeks is allowed for the healing process and for the implant(s) to firmly anchor in the bone.
Final restoration: the final restorative element (crown/bridge/denture) will be fitted over several appointments.
QUESTIONS ABOUT
Post implant placement, it is common to experience slight tenderness and discomfort, as is typical with any surgical procedure. This can be effectively managed with analgesics. During the procedure, the area is thoroughly numbed to ensure maximum comfort.
Dental implants necessitate robust bone condition and strength, which is often lacking in patients when they approach us. In such instances, a bone graft might be required, wherein artificial bone is implanted into the jaw to ensure successful implant integration.
