OVERVIEW

DERMAL FILLERS LOUGHBOROUGH

Dermal fillers offer a versatile solution to enhance and replenish reduced volume in numerous regions of the face and neck. The areas where we commonly employ fillers encompass cheeks, jawline, chins, lips and more.

With advancing age, volume in our midface naturally decreases, which can lead to a saggy appearance, particularly in the ‘jowl’ region. An effective initial measure to counteract this is to restore this diminished volume by administering some filler in the cheek area, providing an attractive and immediate uplift!

QUESTIONS ABOUT

THIS TREATMENT

Fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally present in our skin. Over time, our body breaks this substance down, implying that the filler also disintegrates naturally. When injected, it enhances and hydrates the skin, also aiding in restoring lost volume and structure, changes that typically occur with ageing. Some fillers also include local anaesthetic.

Not when we’re in charge! In areas typically more sensitive, we employ dental blocks with anaesthetic for a comfortable experience. Certain regions experience little to no discomfort.

The procedure carries inherent risks, particularly if not executed safely. The major risk associated with fillers involves injecting into a blood vessel. Since it is a gel, if it remains within a vessel, it can potentially block it, or enable the filler to circulate around blood vessels causing blockages elsewhere. In case this happens, the filler must be instantly dissolved, and we always have the dissolving agent on hand. To reduce this risk, we administer our filler using a cannula. It’s a blunt syringe, introduced through a tiny entry point in the skin. This method is considerably safer for injecting any filler compared to using a needle and significantly reduces the risk of severe complications.

Main side effects include bruising and swelling. The degree varies from person to person, but typically these symptoms subside within the initial few days

The duration depends on the area of application. Filler in the jawline and cheek can last up to a year, whereas filler in the nose to mouth lines or lips typically lasts between 6-9 months.

We generally start with a minimum of 1ml, or 1 syringe, of filler for facial treatments. More often than not, you may require more than this, and occasionally, we may use 2ml in the initial session. This quantity can be increased once the filler has settled, should you feel the need for more.
