OVERVIEW

DENTURES QUORN

Dentures are typically designed to substitute multiple lost teeth. Made of acrylic, they might also include metal components. Aiming for a natural appearance, dentures are generally comfortable for patients to wear. However, it’s worth noting that they aren’t fixed, but rather they stay in place by resting on the gum, and occasionally, adjacent teeth.

QUESTIONS ABOUT

THIS TREATMENT

It’s vital to remove your dentures at night, allowing your gums some respite or ‘breathing’ space. This practice helps prevent infections from emerging in the mouth. Dentures should stay moist when not in use, typically kept in cool water overnight. Regular brushing of the denture and any existing teeth is crucial, and the use of denture cleaner tablets (such as Steradent) can be advantageous.

  • Acrylic dentures – entirely constructed of plastic, these stay in place due to suction
  • Cobalt-chromium dentures – equipped with a lightweight metal frame, these enhance the denture’s fit and comfort
  • Flexible dentures (Valplast dentures) – these provide better comfort and fit compared to acrylic dentures, being less thick and less cumbersome
  • Implant-retained dentures – dental implants can be utilised to secure dentures. This approach results in less acrylic use, making the dentures lighter and more comfortable, and enabling them to clip into position, providing more steadiness and reduced movement while eating
