OVERVIEW

DENTURES LOUGHBOROUGH

Dentures are typically made to replace multiple missing teeth. Crafted from acrylic, they may also incorporate metal elements. Striving for a natural look, dentures are, in most cases, comfortable to wear for patients. However, it is important to remember that they are not fixed in but are held in place by resting on the gum, and, at times, neighbouring teeth.

QUESTIONS ABOUT

THIS TREATMENT

It is important to remove your dentures at night, allowing your gums to ‘breathe’. This habit aids in preventing infections from developing in the mouth. Dentures should remain wet when not in use, often kept in cold water overnight. Regular brushing of the denture and any remaining teeth is vital, and the use of denture cleaner tablets (such as Steradent) can prove beneficial.

  • Acrylic dentures – entirely made of plastic, these are held in place by suction
  • Cobalt-chromium dentures – featuring a lightweight metal framework, these enhance the denture’s retention and comfort
  • Flexible dentures (Valplast dentures) – these offer improved comfort and retention compared to acrylic dentures, being thinner and less bulky
  • Implant retained dentures – dental implants can be used to secure dentures. This technique enables less use of acrylic, rendering the dentures lighter and more comfortable, and allowing them to clip into place, offering more stability and less movement while eating
