OVERVIEW
Dental crowns act as a protective shell that envelops a tooth, and are called for in several situations. The choice of material for the crown varies depending on the specific needs of the patient and the dentist’s recommendation.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
During your routine dental check-up or consultation, your dentist will determine if this procedure is necessary for you. This discussion will provide an opportunity to address any questions or concerns you might have.
Completing this treatment typically necessitates at least two visits. Initially, the tooth is usually anesthetised using local anaesthesia. During the first visit, the dentist will prepare the tooth and take moulds of your teeth to be dispatched to the laboratory. Often, a temporary crown or cover is positioned over the tooth to safeguard it.
The laboratory technician will utilise these moulds to create a bespoke crown that’s unique to each patient and perfectly fits over the tooth. If a white crown is opted for, it will be matched to the shade of your natural tooth.
On your follow-up visit, the dentist will fit the crown, ensuring that it is comfortable and perfectly adjusted to your bite. If all fits well, the crown will be permanently affixed.
Occasionally, crowns might necessitate some modifications after they have been fitted. We encourage all our patients to get in touch if they sense any discomfort or imbalance even after a couple of weeks. We will then arrange an appointment to evaluate and adjust as needed.
QUESTIONS ABOUT
Dental crowns can be crafted from various materials. Crowns made from non-precious metals or precious metals such as gold are not tooth-coloured. However, we typically provide crowns that are white or tooth-coloured.
These tooth-coloured crowns can be fashioned from materials such as porcelain, emax, and zirconia. The shade of the crown will be carefully chosen by the dentist to harmonise with your natural teeth.
